THE CURIO CLUB STORY
It all starts with
“The Muppet Show” …
The Curio Club began as an idea in 2014. While mucking around during a jazz student band rehearsal, it was suggested that The Muppet Show theme would sound really great swung. Well, it did. And that was that. There was no turning back …
From there, developed the plan for a very unique covers band that would have a beautiful jazz sound and sophisticated look, but instead of doing things the normal way, this band would transform modern songs into jazz. Kind of like doing today’s hits, yesterday! And today, this is still what we do best … and still what we have the best time doing.
And we don’t just mean the gigs – even our band practice sessions are fun. We still love getting together with our ideas for modern songs that could be transformed – it is an exciting and creative and hilarious process … often ending with an unexpected result that quickly becomes our new favourite.
Another big part of our Master Plan for world domination, was for The Curio Club to look fabulous. We figured the complete classy sight and sound package, had to be the perfect eye and ear candy.
Then we decided to add the additional feature of versatility; being able to perform as both the classic instrumental trio and/or the classic vocal trio. We thought, why just give people one band, when we can give them two?? Now we’re cooking!
With Max Tocker in command on piano, Dave Pitt all over that upright bass, and Lucy Daws bringing it home on drums or vocals, The Curio Club is always ready for anything.
All this long time later, we have now had the fun and privilege of having performed for so many and varied events and concerts … all while having the pleasure of working together with so many wonderful people. Life is good! 🙂
